Uncomplicated Skin Infections

Impetigo is a superficial infection of the top layers of the skin. It occurs most commonly in children, especially during hot, humid summer weather. Other superficial skin infections, such as boils, can be caused by similar types of bacteria.

The goal of this study is to determine the bacterial etiology (source/cause) of impetigo and uncomplicated skin infections in various parts of the U.S.

The basic inclusion criteria are as follows:

  • Children up to 15 years old with impetigo, OR
  • Individuals of any age with a different uncomplicated skin infection.

The study does not involve treatment. The lesion is simply swabbed, which takes less than 1 minute.
