Dr. Joseph Surber of Southeast Regional Research Group to Speak at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Joseph G. Surber, of Southeast Regional Research Group will be speaking at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine on April 21, 2008. During the noon lunch, Dr. Surber will discuss the importance of physician involvement in research as well as the national trends in medical research.

“We are able to share with students the latest medical findings and show them that the field they’ve chosen is ever-evolving, never stagnant,” Surber said.
Dr. Surber will also share with the first- and second-year medical students the different ways that physicians can benefit from conducting research in their practices.
“Sharing with others our exciting research experience is a win-win,” Dr. Surber said. “We show medical students the need for research in medicine and stress the importance of medical research to promoting the future of patient care. In turn, as physicians and surgeons these professionals keep research at the forefront of their minds as they seek the most comprehensive treatment for their patients.”

A West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine alum, Dr. Surber received his medical degree in 2001 and is currently Chief Medical Officer of Southeast Regional Research Group, a Georgia-based Multi-Specialty Management Organization (MSMO). Additionally, Dr. Surber recently acquired his certification as a Physician Investigator (CPI) through the Association of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators (APPI) and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP).

Dr. Surber is board certified in Family Medicine and holds faculty positions with the Medical College of Georgia and Mercer University. He has been conducting medical research since 2005 in the following therapeutic areas: Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Rheumatology and Wound Care.
